AMD Opteron released today!!!!

The Opteron is a device that consists of several main components: a 64-bit core, 64-KB of Level 1 instruction cache, 64-KB of Level 1 data cache, 1-MB of Level 2 cache, a double-data-rate (DDR) memory controller, and a HyperTransport unit. The Level 1 cache is a two-way, set-associative unit, while the Level 2 cache boasts a 16-way architecture. And the HyperTransport unit supports up to three links or paths to the I/O, for an aggregate bandwidth of 19.2-gigabits-per-second.

“AMD Opteron processors are targeted to the desktop, server and workstation. The performance is very promising to the current needs and we believe that it very competitive to the upcoming Intel Itanium which is based on 64-bit Technology too.”, said Wee Yep Yin, Marketing Manager for South Asia Pacific, AMD Far East LTD. “AMD’s x86-64 technology will soon enable the industry to advance software development on all fronts with x86 compatibility, while providing the capability of delivering 64-bit technology benefits.”
