A Mini Retrospective: 514 8th ave

Fat Jesus Reflects!

“Between my place and the church was a driveway/alley. It was nice being able to park my car there sometimes, but it was a real hassle when I discovered that the alley was a frequent path for people walking home either from the bars or from parties in the neighborhood. The dark area behind the house was a perfect place for an impromptu urinal (right below my bathroom window, so I’d get some special aromas in the summer), and then the people would stagger down the driveway, right past the only windows in my bedroom.”

Oops, I forgot to add the backstory for anyone who missed out on the 514/Fat Jesus period of my life:

Fat Jesus was a neighbor I had whilst living at 514 8th ave from 2003 – 2005. He was really nice, and a fellow computer nerd. He just happened to look like Jesus, only fatter, hence Fat Jesus. We all got along pretty well, except for one time, at the Halloween 2003 party, when NT and I were making too much noise in the basement below his room and he came down and yelled at us (I’m still traumatized). I thought he was going to banish us to hell or something. Anyway, I always felt bad for him, having to live next to college kids and Louis (our downstairs neighbor) who lived a very dramatic life.

Dileepa’s sums up the Fat Jesus/Louis dynamic nicely: ” I remember walking out of my car towards house in middle of night and Louie beating some one up near our house! I speed dialed someone on phone and walked in like “ahhhhh.” I am sure the guy was a drug dealer or someone that didn’t need help. At least that’s how I went to sleep that night. :-/”

Anyway, that was my life from 2003-2005, 514, beer, Louis’ drama, parties, my drama, classes, girls, Fat Jesus, Dreamcast, and two awesome roomates, Filip and Tom.
After the first year, my neighbors across the hall moved out into a condo. And that’s when things began to slide. Louie moved in next door, with his pregnant girlfriend. I was hoping they’d be a quiet couple, but they fought like cats and dogs, often with the wife locking herself in the bathroom.

This was a pattern that would be repeated with various of his girlfriends, and was probably my biggest single complaint about the house. Well, except for Louie’s habit of coming home drunk from the bar where he worked and cranking his stereo at 2 or 3 in the morning. And once he and his girlfriend has split, there was nothing holding him back except for me getting out of bed and going over to thump on his door and tell him to shut the fuck up. Or just call the cops.
