Quotable

Classic.

Ron Burgandy: I don’t know how to put this but I’m kind of a big deal.
Veronica Corningstone: Really.
Ron Burgandy: People know me.
Veronica Corningstone: Well, I’m very happy for you.
Ron Burgandy: I’m very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

Learning Russian?

Ahead of my trip to Ukraine in February, I’ve been trying to learn some Russian, and to my surprise, it’s working. Some essential phrases I’ve mastered to date:

Привет – privyet – hi
Меня зовут Пит – meenya zavut peet – my name is pete
Я люблю пиво – Ya lublu pivo – i love beer
Я хочу пиво – Ya hachu pivo – i want a beer
Сколько стоит пиво? – skolko stoet pivo – how much does beer cost
Пора пить пиво – pora peet pivo – time to drink a beer
У меня (нет) подруга – ooh meenyah (nyet) podruga – i have (no) girlfriend
Спасибо – spasebo – thank you
До свидания – da svedaneyah – goodbye

Some useful/fun learning Russian resources I’ve found to date, a phrases site with spoken pronunciation, a learning the alphabet and some cognates site, and some hilarious Youtube-based guy extolling the benefit(s) of learning Russian (haha)
.

Welcome to Chicago

Dinner reservations with the Lt. Governor, meetings with a Brigadier General and two IBM heads, no problem. Finding my way to the Big Bowl on Ohio street, a mere four blocks from the Radisson, impossible.
