What have I been up to?

February 3, 2009

So, after weeks of working 12 hour days, I can finally announce what I was working on — Google Earth 5.0 I developed the ‘Ocean Observations’ layer which, along with the ability to view historical imagery, see Mars, and dive in the Ocean, comprises the latest GE release. To cap off this work, I got to attend (and present) at the Google Earth 5 release party today in San Francisco, which was a lot of fun. Opening remarks were given by Eric Schmidt, Al Gore, and the amazing Sylvia Earle. Jimmy Buffet wrapped things up by singing us a fun little song (while being fixated on the bubbly lectern). He also provided the quote of the day: “Without geography, you are nowhere.”

Hey man, sounds outstanding. I’m very close to my own system release, which will be followed by flying across the country promoting the system to a very few select distribution channels. 12-15hr days, I know them well over the past 3 weeks…

Great job Pete! My nephew loves Google Earth, he’s only 6, but I told him you helped develop the software.

I heard the buzz on this the day it came out and figured you’d be involved.

I’m still trying to find the easter egg with the WWII map overlay… I know it’s in there somewhere!
