Just priceless!

A woman in jail for public intoxication was accused of assaulting a jailer by squirting breast milk at her.

Nasty!

However, 5 years and 10 grand? No wonder we're a prison state (country).

I strongly believe that "assault on a police officer" should not exist. It's assault, not assault on a benevolent god. Squirting breast milk at somebody is not on par with an attempt to cause substantial bodily harm, and to declare it does is absolutely irresponsible.

You don't think the people charged with ensuring our safety by puting themselves in harm's way deserve a little extra protection?

Agreed. I'm sure it will end up being a lesser charge.

Assault classifications, relevant to the discussion:

No, just as there are zillions of other professions who put themselves in harm's way for others who do not receive extra "protection."

I couldn't agree more with A-Dilla. Police choose their profession knowing the inherent risks, and quite frankly, I'd be willing to bet money that more people are abused by police than vice versa.

The idea it will be pled down to a lesser charge actually makes me a little more angry. When an accused is charged with everything under the Sun, it's just a pressure tactic to get them to plead guilty to lesser charges or fewer charges. The fact the 3rd degree assault will plead down to a 5th degree assault is irrelevant. Squiring breast milk at somebody, other than a cop, would result in a indecent exposure type of charge that would be dropped altogether.
